| NID enrols more PG students
On the eve of commencement
of its academic year, executive director of the National Institute of
Design Darlie Koshy said, "The institute has taken initiatives from
the new academic session starting from Monday. The institute has increased
its intake of students at the post graduate level from 95 seats last year
to 145 seats in the current academic year.
Apart
from the increase in the intake, the institute has also introduced two
new courses including information design and interface design at the post
graduate level. The courses were introduced due to specific request from
the state government as the software industry is fast picking up in the
state.
Animation,
new media and IT related programmes were introduced to add up to the value
chain in the software industry so that more branded and value added software
and digital products could come up.
New
contemporary machines and equipments have been installed at an outlay
of Rs 2.4 crore so as to keep with the latest technological developments,
he said. Besides, all the hostel rooms will now be connected with LAN
to the main server of the institute and the digital resources at the institute’
knowledge management center which will usher in a new era in design education
integrating classroom and off campus hours, he added.
A
three-volume directory of designs is being prepared at the institute,
which will have about 360 clusters of design from across the country.
The first volume of the directory is already complete, he further said.
