| Unplanned digging cause water logging
The first showers of
monsoon made commuting on city roads a difficult task, due to water logging.
Situation was worse on certain roads where digging operations was on.
Areas outside AMC and Auda limits were the worst affected. The BJP alleged
that the pre-monsoon plan has failed after first showers of monsoon.
Water
logging was reported in certain areas of Odhav, some parts of Maninagar
and societies near Vasna barrage. BJP leader in AMC Amit Shah said inspite
of their representation to the government as well as AMC, the water level
at Vasna barrage in Sabarmati was kept at 132 feet. Water logging was
also seen in low-lying areas near the river where drainage pipes have
been blocked, he added.
Corporator
Rashmi Shukla said slums in the low-lying areas of Maninagar were also
affected by water logging. AMC officials have undertaken the task of clearing
water logging in the area.
A
commuter said the digging work on the ring road that connects Bapunagar
and Odhav is a major hassle. "Traffic jams are often seen as one
side of the road is blocked due to digging work," he said. AMC has
stopped all digging operations in the city. But in Auda area work on 132
feet ring road is still on.
Residents
of areas like Bopal, which is outside AMC and Auda limits faced extreme
difficulties with water logging in most of the societies.
The
area being out of the limits of civic authorities the residents are clueless
about whom to approach with their complaints.
