| Explosion at dargah, no casualty
A powerful crude bomb
blast coinciding with deputy prime minister L.K. Advani’s city visit
on Saturday afternoon unnerved the city police.
However,
no casualty has been reported from the blast which occurred on the roof
of a 500-year-old Sufi saint’s dargah in Shahpur area of Ahmedabad.
The
blast blew away large chunks of stone from the parapet of the dome of
Adbul Jallil Saheb’s dargah, situated several metres away. The sound
of the blast was heard almost a kilometre away and crowds of people from
the neighbouring minority-dominated areas gathered to inquire about the
incident.
The
police officials, who were patrolling on the streets owing to the deputy
prime minister’s visit, reached the spot in minutes. Incidentally,
the state BJP office is just 50 yards from the dargah.
Ruling
out communal angle to the blast, additional commissioner of police incharge
(sector I) P.C. Thakur said, "Chances of communal angle to the blast
is minimal since there is no other way to get on the roof of the dargah
without entering the dargah."
