| Accused in dargah blast held
Shahpur
police apprehended one Amjadkhan Pathan on Wednesday for his alleged involvement
in the explosion that took place at the dome of Abdul Wahab Saheb’s
Dargah in Khanpur area.
The
blast occurred on Saturday afternoon even as the city police maintained
a heavy bandobast following deputy prime minister L.K. Advani’s
visit to the city on the same day. However, no one was injured in the
blast.
Shahpur
police inspector P.P. Kanani and PSI J.T. Rana, who were investigating
the case, zeroed in on Pathan, after collecting information to those arrested
during communal violence in the area.
They
discovered that Pathan’s residence was in a chawl behind the Dargah,
and was arrested during the riots for supplying explosives. DCP Zone II
Vikas Sahay said, "When questioned, Pathan confessed that he had
placed the explosives on the dome after his release from jail, about eight
months ago. He still had some explosives with him. But, I find it hard
to believe that the explosives remained intact on the dome for such a
long period, and then it suddenly went off after the area received rains."
Pathan is still being interrogated about it.
