Mr G. Upadhyaya, chairman and managing director of the company, received the award from the Union minister of state for commerce and industry, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, at a function in New Delhi on Thursday, said a company press statement. Since its inception, Nalco has achieved spectacular success as the country’s leading exporter of alumina and aluminium.
During the financial year 2003-2004, the company exported 9.35 lakh tonnes of alumina and 1.30 lakh tonnes of aluminium metal achieving the highest-ever export earning of Rs.1,717.38 crores. During 2003-04, the total sales turnover was Rs.3,338.87 crores and the profit after tax was Rs 737.37 crores. Besides, for the first half of the current fiscal 2004-05, the company achieved the highest-ever net profit of Rs 494.53 crores, compared to Rs 305.51 crores in the previous period.
