BJP steals Valsad, loses Savarkundla to Congress

The BJP bagged Valsad district panchayat president's post by engineering a rebellion in Congress while lost Savarkundla taluka panchayat, as nine of its elected members rebelled against party's official, candidate on Wednesday.
 
The BJP had won 16 district panchayats in the recent elections and added one more to its bag by getting Ganpat Patel of the Congress on their side. Mr. Patel has been made president of the Valsad district panchayat with support of 14 of the BJPs' elected representatives. Rebellion in the BJP against official candidate Manish T., for the post of president in Savarkundla taluka panchayat, has brought some cheer in the Congress camp. Nine elected members of the BJP, under the leadership of Yogesh Bhatt, took Congress support and devised a BJP loss by 21 to

15 votes. Yogesh Bhatt has been elected as president of the panchayat. The, BJP secured president's post in Valsad, Navsari, Narmada, Vadodara, Panchmahals, Dahod, Ahmedabad, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Kutch, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Amreli, Bhavnagar and Surendranagar district panchayats. Elections will be held on November 19 in the Patan district panchayat, where the BJP enjoys a majority. The BJP had won 138 out of 209 taluka panchayats where elections were held. State BJP general secretary Purshottam Rupala said the party would seek report of what went wrong in the Savarkundla taluka panchayat president's election and then take action against those responsible for rebellion against the official party candidate.
