BJP suspends ex-CM's son
November 11, 2005

The BJP on Thursday suspended Nihar Mehta, son of former chief minister Suresh Mehta, for alleged anti-party activities during the recently held taluka and district panchayat elections. Mr. Mehta, who does not hold any position in the Kutch district BJP, was an active member of the BJP.

Mr. Mehta had participated actively in the anti-Narendra Modi campaign before the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the district and taluka panchayat elections. A strong action by the chief minister against those opposed to his style of functioning was expected after Mr. Modi single-handedly led the party to a massive victory in the elections.

Kutch BJP president Tarachand Cheda told this newspaper that they had received a complaint from the taluka unit of the party for alleged anti-party activity by Nihar Mehta that was discussed by the district unit and a decision to suspend him was taken after discussing it with state BJP vice-president Anant Dave and the state unit. "About 11 other members have also been suspended for anti-party activities," Mr. Cheda said.
