In an effort to give relief to the middleclass and poor section of the society, the Gujarat State Road Trans-port Corporation has reduced its tariff for short distance journeys.

A marginal hike has been made in the long distance journeys.

Accordingly, the increase in the tariff introduced on November 12 last year has been withdrawn. From now on, a journey up to six kilometers will cost Rs 3 instead of Rs 5 charged earlier. A journey up to nine kilometers will now cost Rs 4 instead of Rs 5. Further, it will be possible for passengers to commute in the Express buses by paying local bus fare. It means that for a journey up to 30 kilometers a commuter will end up saving Rs 4 to Rs 7.For journey between 15 and 60 km the fare has been hiked by Re 1. For journeys longer than 60 km, a hike of Rs 2 has been introduced. The ST journey between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will cost a Rupee more from now on. Fare for local service in cities like Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Surat and Baroda remain untouched.
