GNFC-Infocity
to start operations by October
The
connectivity-equipped GNFC-Infocity, located on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar
highway, would begin its operations by early October, the chief minister,
Keshubhai Patel said.
Reviewing the progress of
the two mega projects of the state government viz Infocity and Science
City at a high level meeting, Mr Patel said that entrepreneurs willing
to set up their units in the proposed Infocity, could now get connectivity
facility. The meeting was attended among others by Bimal Shah, minister
of state for information technology, L N S Mukundan, chief secretary,
N V Vasani, advisor to the chief minister and K C Kapoor, additional chief
secretary, information technology department.
The chief minister informed
the meeting that the pre-feasibility report being prepared by renowned
information technology consultants for the mega infocity, would be submitted
to the government soon. Gujarat Informatics Ltd set up for the purpose
has already short-listed three developers for setting up an Infotower.
The progress made at various stages, was also discussed at the meeting.
He said that GNFC-Infocity
has already received STPI connectivity connection from Gandhinagar. Now
a separate satellite earth station will be established to take care of
the day-to-day needs, he said.
Entrepreneurs have also shown
their keen interest in setting up units for offering assembling services
besides exporting softwares.
The meeting also decided
to set up the state’s own Gujarat Institute of Information Technology
(GIIT) to impart computer training to the new generation and if necessary
collaborations from the IBM, Oracle and Microsoft would also be sought.
With regard to the proposed
Science City, he said that 200 acres of land had already been acquired
behind the Gujarat High Court, Sola Road’ and has constituted a Gujarat
Council of Science City for implementing the project. The Centre for Environment
Planning and Architectural Design has already undertaken the work.
