Reliance to set up
1,500 kiosks
Reliance
Industries Ltd is planning to set up 1,500 information kiosks around the
state in next six months.
The kiosks, besides giving
information about various departments of the government, will also digitise
all government forms so that they can be accessed from all over the state.
The kiosks will be linked
with STD PCOs in the state.
Reliance industries has already
obtained the "right of way" clearance from the Centre for laying the optical
fibres. The kiosks will also provide Internet facilities to the common
people all over the state. Meanwhile, the kiosk put up by the state government
in the secretariat has not been revised in the last two-and-a-half months.
Transfers of more than 25 state officials in the last month have yet to
reflect on the functioning of kiosks. The mismanagement also reflects
in the fact that the chief vigilance officer's name is shown as S.L. Verma
though Mr V.R.S. Cowlagi took over the charge more than two months ago.
The Japanese company Shonkh had put up five kiosks in the state at the
Ahmedabad railway station, the airport, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation
and the ST stand besides the one at secretariat.
However, the state government
has to depend on the officials of the company for any updates to be made
in the list.
