Continental branches off into IT

Continental Controls Ltd. (CCL), engaged in the manufacture of thermal overload protector, an electro mechanical device that provides safety to household and industrial equipment and which is an import substitute, has diversified into the area of information technology (IT).

According to a press release of the company, the diversification has enabled the company to offer its services viz exports of medical transcription services for hospitals in USA.

CCL also has a plan to develop an e-commerce site on the Web. It is also developing various softwares for general use, for health-care-hospitals, for Vastushastra, for religious matters and for the stock watch.

The company has started its software division in western Mumbai.

The company has its project in Silvassa (near Vapi) which was completed under the technical knowhow from Buireo Seizman of Germany.

In this plant, the company will produce a new range of overload protection devices for refrigeration and air conditioner compressors.

With this, CCL will be the first company in India and second in the world to produce such a protective device. The product launch is expected within the next six to eight months.

Underwriter Laboratories Inc. has allowed the company to use its UL mark on its product denoting maintenance quality and safety standards.

The company also expects to receive IS 9001 certification by end of January 2000.
