IMAX
3D theatre inaugurated
Ahmedabad, Oct. 23: The
much talked about IMAX 3D theatre, said to be India’s first and largest,
was finally inaugurated on Wednesday at the hands of deputy Prime Minister
L.K. Advani. Caretaker chief minister Narendra Modi presided over the
function.
This science city has been made under the
aegis of Gujarat Council of Science
City. Speaking on occasion, Mr Advani recounted how he watched the first
3D film titled House of Wax in Mumbai in 1957. He said development of
science and technology took a millenium to percolate down to the masses.
But the twentieth century witnessed the biggest developments in science
and technology and its effect being felt at the level of the common man.
Mr Advani thanked Keshubhai Patel for planning
the science city and congratulated Mr Modi and all those involved in the
project for completing it in time.
Former chief minister Keshubhai Patel who
is the brain behind the Gujarat Science City informed that the total built
up area of the science city was initially comprising 103 acres but would
be extended to 650 acres. Mr Patel suggested that a golf course be constructed
in the vicinity of the Science City.
Care taker chief minister Narendra Modi,
while speaking on the occasion, said the BJP government wishes to create
a work culture wherein if a project is conceived, it is translated into
reality within the specified time frame. In an era when science is expanding
its area of influence and applied science alone can take care of the needs
of a changing world, the IMAX theatre would make science interesting as
it combines education as well as entertainment, he added.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion
included minister of state for defence Harin Pathak, Sarkhej MLA Amit
Shah and member secretary of Gujarat Science City Rajesh Kishore.
