‘Sorry, the Prime Ministers are still under construction’

"There are nine candidates from Gujarat contesting on Congress tickets from various parliamentary constituencies. Wrong information. Any one with even a wee bit of current affairs erudition will gauge. But then this is the information "officially" given by the Congress.

For a change it is not the otherwise disorganised state Congress doling out information. It is the party’s official website managed in Delhi.

Though party veteran Dinsha Patel, who is all set to enter the Parliament for the third consecutive time from Kaira, is lucky enough to be one of the nine candidates whom the Congress terms as candidates, the bearded Patel becomes a woman in the Congress list for it refers to Mr Patel as Shrimati Dinsha Patel ;o)

A senior computer-savvy office bearer of the Gujarat Congress claims that this list "could have been put on the site before the candidates were finalised." Wrong again, for a message prominently displayed says the site was last updated on August 29 at 6.35 am.

It is not just Gujarat, which has discrepancies on the site. Most of the state lists are either incomplete or have wrong information.

The only accurate information available on the site is about the Congress Working Committee and its functions. There is no misinformation here. In fact, a Gujarati politician, Mr Ahmed Patel, finds a place just next to Mrs Sonia Gandhi in the list of the national Congress structure.

Another icon on the site tries to provide information about the party president but here too, there is just an enlarged photograph of Mrs Sonia Gandhi. The irony is the fact that the icon "Prime Ministers" which any Internet buff would think has information about the party’s past Prime Ministers and better the prospective prime ministerial candidates is grossly disappointing. Once you click on the "Prime Ministers," it says "Sorry. Prime Ministers under construction."
