Gujarati girl honoured
for academic excellence
The General assembly of the State of
New Jersey has ho noured 16-year-old Mauli Shah, a Gujarati girl student
of Englewood in the US, who is the recipient of Lucent Technologies New
Jersey Scholar Award for her impressive academic record.
The award includes a scholarship
of $5,000 for Mauli’s college education as well as the opportunity
to attend the Lucent Global summit with more than 80 students from around
the world. Mauli is the daughter of Amritlal and Amola Shah of Ahmedabad
who are now residing in USA. Her grandmother Sulochana Patolawala is in
Ahmedabad.
Mauli, who skipped both the
fifth and seventh grades, has been named valedictorian of the class of
1999 at Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood where she ranked first
in her class of 167 students and was elected president of the Asian America
Heritage Committee. She has a four grade point average.
Mauli has already received
academic honours including the Columbia University Science Honors, the
University of Pennysylvania Book Award for Overall Academic Achievement,
the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Mathematics and Science Award, and
the Parent Teacher Organisation Awards.
