AMC to start mobile
schools
The
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided to start mobile Schools for
children of the poor to bring education to their doorsteps.
The city primary education
committee has decided to run mobile Schools for one year starting from
Thursday to teach 28 selected children identified at Ramapir na Tekra
in the Nava Wadaj area.
The School on Wheels project
of the AMC has been launched with a budget of Rs 15 lakhs to teach the
children of deprived class and those engaged in child labour.
School board chairman Kaushik
Mehta said India has 16 crore child labourers and only 6 crores manage
to reach schools. "We have taken a small step to inculcate the habit of
studying among such children so that they start enrolling themselves in
regular classes," he said.
The 28 children selected
will be admitted to Class 1 and 2 and given education in an informal manner.
The students who get through both the standards will be admitted in the
regular classes of the municipal schools in Class 3. "If 10 pupils get
through it will be a success for us," he added.
Mr Mehta said if the project
goes well the board will start a mobile school at Behrampura.
