Speaking at an inaugural
function later, the chief minister said that at present he was conveying
the message to the concerned officials as a request. "I am sure they
will not make me adopt a strict attitude," he said in a lighter vein.

According to district collector
Anil Mukim, now the redressal of grievances will be monitored at various
levels and each complainant will get a separate number for follow up
of his case.
For the first time in Gujarat,
all the offices of a collectorate have been inter-linked through computer.
Complementing Mr Mukim
for transforming Vadodara into a model district, the Chief Minister
said that he had accomplished a difficult task. He further said that
people have lost faith in politicians and "zeal and will" is needed
to regain their trust.
The chief minister also
urged the officers to shed their inferiority complex. "The officers
need to have a positive, creative, constructive, innovative and result-oriented
thinking for a better performance," he said.
Mr Patel said the bureaucrats
and politicians can play an important role in bringing down the poverty
level and the mortality rate among the infants.
In his address, patron
minister of Vadodara Jaspal Singh pointed out that Vadodara is yet to
pass the acid test. "If complaints made by the people are not acted
upon, we will not be able to change their perception about the government
departments. Bringing about positive changes in the system will be an
uphill task," he said.
Mr Singh further said that
the schemes only figure on paper but the quality of work is missing.
"Schemes are announced
but their implementation is not monitored. Computerisation alone will
not help the administration strike a rapport with the masses," he said.
Speaking as the chief guest,
noted economist and former governor of the Reserve Bank of India Dr
I.G. Patel emphasised, "Politicians are not our masters. We should not
be entirely dependent on government. Only people can bring about a change."
Ministers Bhupendra Lakhawala
and Ramanlal Vora, district collectors, district development officers
and leading citizens of Vadodara were also present on the occasion.
