CM gives a clean
chit to Haren in cable wars
Chief
minister Keshubhai Patel on Tuesday said the state government will enact
fresh laws to government cable network operations in the state considering
intense rivalry prevalent in this business.
"At present there are no
law provisions to control cable operators and laws will be enacted to
curb rivalry between operators," Mr. Patel said immediately after meeting
the Koli delegation led by Mr Purshottam Solanki.
When asked about the involvement
of minister of state for home Haren Pandya in the cable war between
Incable and Skynet, as alleged by Purshottam Solanki earlier, the chief
minister categorically said, "There has been no mention of Mr Pandya’s
involvement either by Mr Solanki or other Koli leaders.
Their grievance was against
harassment of Kolis by the police in Bhavanagar. Haren Pandya is no
where in the picture.’
The chief minister contradicted
Mr Solanki’s assertion that he (Solanki) will not attend office or Cabinet
meeting until has brother is released on bail and said there has been
no such representation from the deputy minister.
The chief minister denied
Purshottam Solanki had issued an ultimatum of organising mammoth rallies
if disciplinary action is not initiated against police officials responsible
for harassment of the Koli community. On the release of Bharat Solanki
on bail. Mr Patel said the matter is subjudice and will be decided by
the court. "I have assured them that there is no police campaign against
the Koli community and asked them to have confidence in the system.
Mr Patel said the demand for judicial inquiry had been rejected by the
Koli delegation itself. Denying that any action will be taken against
Mr Solanki, Mr Patel, however, stuck to the stand taken by state BJP
president Rajendrasinh Rana that the party’s image has taken a beating
after the Bharat Solanki incident and Mr Purshottam Solanki’s sit in
at the Ellisbridge police station.
