Stop disintegration
of nation: Thakre
The
Bharatiya Janata Party will not let Jammu and Kashmir chief minister
Farooq Abdullah to go ahead with his "politically motivated" resolution
to grant autonomy to the state "at any cost," BJP national president
Kushabhau Thakre categorically said on Wednesday.
Mr Thakre added that the
BJP-led NDA government will have to stall the steps being taken by Mr
Abdullah to "check disintegration of the nation." The BJP national president
was in Gujarat to attend the BJP’s state executive committee meeting.
He said, "The Praja Parishad and the Jan Sangh has made innumerable
sacrifices to ensure that Kashmir remains a part of India and that too
like any other part of India. We will not let the Praja Parishad and
Jan Sangh sacrifices go in vain." Mr Thakre emphasised that "though
the government could have some compulsions, the BJP as a party is absolutely
clear that there cannot be a go ahead on this issue." "The BJP could
be annoyed with the National Conference, but we have to accept the reality,"
he said adding that the National Conference was a part of their NDA
government and hence "no hasty action can be announced." However Mr
Thakre stressed that the resolution would have serious implications.
"I am not bothered about
international implications but the national implications. Today, Punjab
has raised demand for autonomy, tomorrow it will be the north eastern
states. There is no end to such demands," he said adding that such demands
disintegrate the nation and should not be encouraged. "Though Jammu
and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah has stressed that Kashmir
is very much a part of India, this autonomy resolution would prove disastrous
for the country. We cannot let the country disintegrate," he said.
Lambasting the United Nations,
Mr Thakre said, "Expecting the UN to do justice is itself a wrong proposition
because the UN is nothing but a centre of power-play dominated by the
so-called super-powers." While the BJP national president was critical
of the idea of autonomy to Kashmir, he was not in opinion of any stringent
action against Farooq Abdullah or the National Conference, which is
a partner in the NDA government. Mr Thakre tried to emphasise that he
was confident that Mr Abdullah would realise the follies of autonomy
and would not pursue it.
