‘I will resign if essential supply affected’

Mayor Himmatsingh Patel announced in the general hoard meeting here on Friday at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation that he would resign if it is found that essential services like drinking water are stopped because of problems in the cash flow.

This was at the end of the usual political altercations between the Congress and BJP leaders over lack of proper response from the officials.

On the whole, it was a low-key board meeting in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation here on Friday. "The slum networking plan is just on paper and there is a need for changes in the rigid law made by the state," said Mr Patel.

He was answering a question raised by BJP corporator Amit Shah who said that while the AMC had collected money from the poor for slum networking, not much work was done.

There was a furore in the meeting on the allegation by BJP corporator, Bhushan Bhatt that the AMC was not able to provide drinking water twice during Diwali as promised in areas like Lal Darwaja and Madhupura though the main reason for this was technical flaw.
