Do away with old laws, instructs CM

Chief minister Keshubhai Patel has directed senior secretaries of different departments to approach the state law commission for requisite amendments. He said that changes should be made in the prevailing laws wherever qualitative changes were needed.

Addressing a meeting of the secretaries, the chief minister said that Gujarat Law Commission had recommended to do away with the old and outdated laws. The state government has accepted this proposal. Mr. Patel also said that besides this the state government was preparing a report on the police Act, land revenue, Hindu hereditary Act, municipal Act.

Mr. Patel stressed the need for evaluation of the prevailing laws in various departments saying that the Central government had also suggested several model Acts for this, and that concerned departments should also discuss in detail. He said that it was expected of each department to bring about necessary changes in the prevailing laws to infuse dynamism. He said that even in the Central Act the state government had a right to make qualitative changes in rules and for this necessary recommendation would have to be made.
