Computers compulsory in class 11

The Gujarat Secondary Education Board executive committee on Thursday decided to introduce computer as a subject in class 11. The decision would be implemented from the current academic session, sources informed.

According to information available, students, who had opted for computer, in class 8, 9 and 10 could take up the subject, while those, who did not study computer earlier, GSEB has specified that the student concerned, will have to pass the computer exam of SSCE as an ex-student. Further, for schools that would offer the subject to students, GSEB has specified that they must set up a separate laboratory with a capacity of 15 computers.

GSEB claims that the decision would not be difficult to implement since the syllabus books are ready and students concerned would have minimal problems as they will get ample time to prepare for the subject’s examination to be held in HSCE 2004.

Meanwhile, GSEB in an official statement on Thursday, informed that students who did not qualify the HSCE (science) in 2001-02, could change their stream for the second attempt HSCE examination that would be held in 2002-03.
