| Another explosion in Rajkot spreads panic
Yet
another explosive sound was heard in Rajkot in Laxmiwadi area on Friday
morning creating panic among the local population.
Teams of geologists, FSL experts
and even the police are probing and trying to ascertain the cause behind
the sounds that have been unexplained till now.
The city is experiencing such
mysterious sounds since the earthquake, which rocked the state on January
26, 2001. The state government had sent a special team to find out the
cause of these sounds. According to the preliminary reports by the FSL
team, these sounds, which seem to be certain type of explosions, are caused
due to deep earth movements or as a result of accumulation of gas in underground
drainage. It may be noted that an unexplained explosion was heard in the
area two months ago.

shattered and cracks developed in walls of several houses due to the blasts.
A similar explosion was heard in the Laxmiwadi area on Friday morning
when two kuchha houses collapsed due to the blast while cracks were noticed
in four other houses. Residents of the area were not able to sleep due
to the incident. Police, FSL and regional geologist have examined the
areas and a team of geologist from Delhi is likely to reach Rajkot on
Saturday to study and find out reason for the blast. The team led by Dr
Shukla will have five members. Already a geologist from Jaipur Dr Mathur
a geologist from Jaipur is in Rajkot to assess the situation.
