Another explosion in Rajkot spreads panic
Yet another explosive sound was heard in Rajkot in Laxmiwadi area on Friday morning creating panic among the local population.

Teams of geologists, FSL experts and even the police are probing and trying to ascertain the cause behind the sounds that have been unexplained till now.

The city is experiencing such mysterious sounds since the earthquake, which rocked the state on January 26, 2001. The state government had sent a special team to find out the cause of these sounds. According to the preliminary reports by the FSL team, these sounds, which seem to be certain type of explosions, are caused due to deep earth movements or as a result of accumulation of gas in underground drainage. It may be noted that an unexplained explosion was heard in the area two months ago.

Window glasses door panels shattered and cracks developed in walls of several houses due to the blasts. A similar explosion was heard in the Laxmiwadi area on Friday morning when two kuchha houses collapsed due to the blast while cracks were noticed in four other houses. Residents of the area were not able to sleep due to the incident. Police, FSL and regional geologist have examined the areas and a team of geologist from Delhi is likely to reach Rajkot on Saturday to study and find out reason for the blast. The team led by Dr Shukla will have five members. Already a geologist from Jaipur Dr Mathur a geologist from Jaipur is in Rajkot to assess the situation.
