Student murdered over EVE-teasing
A 21-year-old student was beaten and stabbed to death by a rival group of students over an Eve-teasing issue in front of Gujarat Law Society campus, Law Garden, on Monday.

The deceased, Arvind Patel, a resident of Isanpur, was allegedly beaten and stabbed with a sharp weapon by Bhargav, Rajveer and Yogesh. A complaint was filed by Tejas Parekh, 20, a resident of Naranpura, in which he named the three accused along with some other youths who could not be identified.

The brutal incident occurred at 12.30 pm and Navranpura police is investigating the case.

Unconfirmed reports said a scuffle had erupted between Bhargav and the victim a few days back over the former’s girlfriend and the animus was brewing between them over the past few days. The victim, along with his friends, used to frequent the H.A. Commerce College canteen and was allegedly attacked by Bhargav and his friends while Alap and Tejas, the victim’s friends, were away to buy snacks. The scuffle occurred outside the G.L.S. campus near Law Garden.

Seeing their friend in trouble, both Alap and Tejas rushed to rescue him. They too were attacked by the culprits and received minor injuries. Alap and Tejas rushed Patel to V.S. Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Several scuffles have happened in the past week or so with cultural programmes going on in every city college. However, most of these brawls have not gone on the police record.

Eve-teasing cases have been reported from Gujarat College, Swaminarayan College and Nav Gujarat College.

Principal of G.L.S. run H.A. College Sudhir Nanavati denied involvement of any student of his college and said the culprits were outsiders.
