Western Railway posts Rs 1,068 crores profit
The
Western Railway has recorded a profit of a whopping Rs 1,060 crores in
the financial year of 2001-2002 as compared to Rs 525 crores during the
corresponding period last year.
According
to details available, the total income for the last financial year was
Rs 4,701.80 crores against which the expenditure incurred was Rs 4,176.10
crores, thus resulting in a profit of Rs 525 crores.
However,
this profit nearly doubled in the first nine months of the current financial
year and reached a record of Rs 1,060 crores. The total income stood at
Rs 3,735.62 crores out of which Rs 2,675.39 crores were spent, thus resulting
in the huge profit.
Ironically,
sources said implementation of many projects of the Western Railways is
still moving at a snail's pace and the authorities attribute this to the
"lack of funds".
The
conversion from meter gauge line to broad gauge in the routes like Rajkot-Veraval,
Surendranagar-Bhavanagar, Dholadhasa-Mahuva, Morbi-Wanakaner, Viramgam-Mehsana
and Patan-Mehsana is being procrastinated due to "lack of funds," sources
added.
