AICTE
nod to open up NRI quota
The state government’s
efforts to obtain relaxation for non-NRI students seeking admission on
NRI sponsored seats in engineering colleges fructified with the All India
Council for Technical Education granting them permission to enrol for
such seats through a circular on Monday.
Chief Minister Narendra
Modi had, during his recent visit to New Delhi, requested the Union human
resource development minister Murli Manohar Joshi for the relaxation.
The Centre announced the relaxation in view of the prevailing turbulent
situation in the state and the adequate implementation of technical education
in the state.
The circular will enable
all educational institutions in the state to fill up the vacant NRI seats
that had been barred from being filled up by a court order. Further, as
per the fresh AICTE regulation, competent authorities will henceforth
follow the procedure laid out and admit non-NRI students on NRI quota
seats against a fee equal to that charged to the NRIs. The relaxation
is applicable exclusively to the state for the academic year 2002-2003
only.
