Congress kicks out 2 dissidents
The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee has suspended two of its dissident leaders Dr Hemang Vasavda and Jayant Patel Boski for defecting the party and joining hands with the NCP to contest the Assembly elections. "The duo has been suspended from Congress for six years," informed GPCC spokesperson Hasmukh Patel while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.

Dr Hemang Vasavda quit Congress and joined the NCP to contest Assembly election from Rajkot-II constituency, while Jayant Patel Boski has joined hands with the NCP to contest from Sarsa. Even if the duo withdraws its nomination on Thursday, the party will not take them back, Mr Patel said.

Warning other 11 dissidents, including four MLAs, who have filed nominations as independent candidates, the party has asked them to withdraw their nominations by Thursday, which is the last day of withdrawing nomination forms.

"The party has tried to convince them to withdraw their candidature as independent candidates against Congress candidates of the constituencies concerned lest they want to be suspended from the party," the spokesperson said. Four of the dissidents are Congress MLAs Ishwar Vahiya of Mahua, Pratap Gamit of Vyara, Bachu Kishori of Limdi and Kuvarji Harpatis of Songadh, Mr Patel informed. Meanwhile, one Congress dissident Jorubha Chauhan withdrew his nomination on Wednesday.
