IB cautions on terror attacks
Terrorist
organisations are looking out to strike at vulnerable targets to disrupt
the elections and many RSS, VHP, and BJP leaders are in their hitlist,
according to several intelligence reports received by the state intelligence
bureau.
Elections and campaign rally being the soft targets for terrorists since
thousands of people gather during the rallies, an police officer said.
Following attacks in Mombasa in Kenya and on a restaurant in Bali islands,
terrorist organisations have demonstrated that they can and will reach
places far and wide to achieve their agenda, a senior police officer
remarked.
Especially after the riots the state has become more vulnerable as was
the case at Akshardham where just two terrorists created such mayhem
in a single attack, he added.
Reports indicate that terrorists will be trying to target election meetings
and rallies and many prominent leaders of organisations like the VHP,
Bajrang Dal and BJP are in their hitlist.
In view of this apprehension, state police has been alerted to maintain
extra vigil over sensitive and hyper-sensitive spots that have already
been identified in view of the elections. All the leaders who are in
the hitlist will be given extra n Turn to Page 11
security cover during their tour while the rallies addressed by these
leaders will be specially scanned to prevent any untoward incident.
Though the state police has over 400 companies at their disposal, manning
so many places and people can still prove to be a difficult task for
the security forces, a police officer said.
