Modi espouses passion for kites
Chief minister Narendra Modi said here that the state government will activate a technology mission for the maximum growth of kite industry and make the state an international centre.

It will also announce a comprehensive policy to this effect. He said the state government wants to present the kite festival as a festival of five crore Gujaratis and create a brand that would also lead to promotion of cultural tourism without viewing the festival through the prism of majority or minority.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the workshop held at the Gandhi Labour Institute here, Mr Modi expressed resolve of the state government to popularise kite flying in the international community and to develop the kite industry.

He said by internationalising the Rs 100 crores kite industry, the government will be throwing open the gates for one lakh families in the state to boost their economic development. He expressed a firm resolve that the industry will increase five fold and touch the Rs 500-crore mark.

He called upon experts to sit together and prepare a plan for value addition to the market.

Mr Modi said the festival can also be used to boost tourism and promote food festival for undhiu and jalebis, the delicacies consumed during the festival.
