Modi espouses passion for kites
Chief minister Narendra Modi said here
that the state government will activate a technology mission for the maximum
growth of kite industry and make the state an international centre.
It will also announce a comprehensive
policy to this effect. He said the state government wants to present the
kite festival as a festival of five crore Gujaratis and create a brand
that would also lead to promotion of cultural tourism without viewing
the festival through the prism of majority or minority.
Speaking at the inaugural
function of the workshop held at the Gandhi Labour Institute here, Mr
Modi expressed resolve of the state government to popularise kite flying
in the international community and to develop the kite industry.
He said by internationalising
the Rs 100 crores kite industry, the government will be throwing open
the gates for one lakh families in the state to boost their economic development.
He expressed a firm resolve that the industry will increase five fold
and touch the Rs 500-crore mark.
He called upon experts to
sit together and prepare a plan for value addition to the market.
Mr Modi said the festival
can also be used to boost tourism and promote food festival for undhiu
and jalebis, the delicacies consumed during the festival.
