Pota court begins trial in temple attack case
The special Pota court began proceedings
in the Akshardham temple attack case on Thursday.
Public prosecutors H.M. Dhruv,
Sudhir Brahmabhatt and Umesh Trivedi stated the details of the chargesheet
filed against the accused by the investigating officer.
The conspiracy to carry out
the attack was hatched in Jeddah, Riyadh during March-April 2002 where
Rashid Ajmeri along with 14 other accused in the case had expressed deep
concern over the loss of Muslim lives and property during the Gujarat
riots.
The accused had links with
hardcore terrorist organisations like the Jaish-e-Mohammad Tanzeem, Lashkar-e-Tayyeba
and the ISI.
Financial aid was sought
for a plan to retaliate against loss of Muslim lives in the riots by screening
provocative video tapes in a gathering of prominent personalities and
Muslim clerics in Riyadh, the public prosecutors contended.
The special court will continue
the proceedings of the case on December 26.
