10 days remand for Telgi associates
Two associates of Abdul Karim Telgi
have been remanded to 10 days police custody by chief metropolitan magistrate
N.B. Ranekshaw on Thursday. The two were produced in the court by CBI
officials from New Delhi.
The accused Shabbir Ahmad
Mushtaq Shaikh and Khalid Shaikh Badami, residents of Karnataka and close
associates of Telgi, were produced by one Sanjay Dubey, a CBI official
from Delhi, who brought the accused on transfer warrant from Bangalore.
Public prosecutor A.A. Shaikh
arguing for the remand application contended that the two were involved
in counterfeit stamp paper racket.
They were running two agencies
Sahaya Services and Shatrukrupa Services at Ghatlodia and were distributing
fake stamp papers through these agencies. Moreover both the accused are
close associates of Telgi and were handling Telgi’s operation in
Gujarat.
Abdul Karim Telgi is the
mastermind behind the counterfeit stamp paper racket spreading across
several different states amounting to Rs 33,000 crores.
