| CBI, RAW to be roped in for Godhra inquiry
The Godhra carnage investigators are planning
to take help of Research and Analytical Wing and Central Bureau of Investigation
as part of the investigation. The Special Investigation Team has now unearthed
the Karachi connection in the conspiracy.
Highly placed police sources
said that RAW and CBI would be helping SIT to ascertain certain details
about telephone calls made by Godhra cleric Maulana Hussain Umarji —
a key conspirator in February 27 Godhra carnage.
A senior police official
while requesting anonymity said, "We have obtained a detailed list
of telephone calls made by Maulana. A number of calls were made to Karachi
in Pakistan. We would like to find out the Karachi connection with the
help of RAW."
The official further said,
"Maulana has many brothers and sisters settled down in Pakistan.
Besides them, Maulana has some relationships with others too in Pakistan
and we are trying to identify such persons with whom he talked regularly.
We suspect that some of them, specifically in Karachi are known figures
in mafia world."
Asked about the role of CBI,
the official said, "Money poured in from different countries has
also emerged as a crucial aspect. We have to take the help of CBI to know
the channels of funding and piece together the conspiracy."
