| AMC fire brigade does city proud, receives 18 awards
The AMC firemen received 11 gallantry awards
and seven meritorious awards from the President of the country. This is
for the first time 11 firefighters from any fire brigade service of the
country have been given the honour.
Deputy municipal commissioner
A.R. Bhatt said earlier three firemen had received gallantry awards at
a time, but this was for the first time when 11 had been awarded. Municipal
commissioner P. Paneervel said they have been awarded on the recommendation
of the state government.
The awards were given for
the successful performance of the department on January 28, 2002. A mammoth
162 fire calls, including that of hotel Moti Menor case, were attended
by the department on that day and the firemen got into their acts, saving
many lives. In the hotel alone, the firemen saved as many as 16 lives.
Those who got the award include
chief fire officer Bipin Jadeja, station officer Jayesh Khadia, firemen
Vasant More, Dita Rathod, Hitesh Patel, Ramuji Vaghela, Gulamnabi Borida,
Jagdish Ninama and driver pump operator Kirit Patel, Premnarayan Dubey
and Anwar Malek.
Meritorious awards were given
to Devrish Pandey, Purshottam Parmar, Shabbir Sheikh, Natwar Parmar, Kanunath
Nathbaba, Yusuf Sheikh and Kalu Rawat for their exemplary service since
last 30 years.
