Hike in order: Govt.
The state government
on Friday dismissed allegations of unjustified power price hike and claimed
that its decision will check power thefts and power distribution loss.
Referring
to charges levelled by the state Congress as "misleading", the
state government claimed that the power supplied to the farmers of the
state is one of the lowest in the country. A government release claimed
that it was former chief minister Chimanbhai Patel, who had entered into
a power purchase agreement with the GSEC in 1994 to buy power at Rs 4.41
per unit. For this, the government had to pay a fixed charge of Rs 42
crore per month
