Mallika
goes for anticipatory bail plea
Mallika Sarabhai, director of Darpana
Academy, has filed an anticipatory bail before the sessions court on Wednesday
against the complaint filed by one Manushi Shah.
Advocate R.K. Shah filing
the bail application on behalf of Ms Mallika stated in the application
that the accusations of Manushi were false and baseless. Moreover, the
bail application mentions that Rs 3.3 lakh was taken from each student
of Darpana academy for the foreign trip. On cancellation of the scheduled
trip, Rs 3.1 lakh was returned to every student whereas Rs 20,000, which
was non-refundable amount and a mandatory fees for procuring visa, was
not returned. Moreover, the charity commissioner and joint police commissioner
P.C. Thakur earlier had probed the case where they didn’t find any
discrepancies. The sessions court will decide on the bail application
on October 24.
A complaint was filed by
Manushi Shah, a member of Ms Sarabhai’s folk dance troupe which
was scheduled to travel to USA and Brazil in February 2002. Each of the
13 members of the troupe had paid Rs 3.3 lakhs and the complaint alleged
that only Rs 3.1 lakhs was refunded.
