The
Mandav gadh fort was built in 1842 by the Nawab of Junagadh, and gifted
to the Kathi warrior chieftain, Bapu Hasur Wala, with the fiefdom of 6
villages, at the request of the British administrators. The fort covers
5000 sq yards, and is entered by any of 3 arch gates, large enough for
elephants, leading to 3 separate courtyards.
The interiors are decorated
with brass utensils, beadwork textiles, embroideries and other handicrafts
of the region. The fort is offered to investors and hoteliers on lease,
with 20 acres of adjoining land if required . It is 12 kms from the
Piyava check-post of Gir national park & wildlife sanctuary, with
it’s population of the last Asiatic lions in the world, panther, deer,
antelopes, peafowl and extensive birdlife, 45 minutes drive from historic
Junagadh, with it’s impressive fort, Ashoka’s 250 BC rock eddicts, Buddhist
relics, museums and palaces, and the temple covered Girnar peak and 10
minutes from the pilgrim spot of Satadar.
It can also be the staging
post for visits to other tourist attractions like Tulsishyam, Diu and
Veraval. Adjoining Visavadar is the constituency of hon. Keshuhhai Patel,
the chief minister of Gujarat.
